Owned and operated by the Giannakis family since 1993, Prime Table isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a gathering place where the values of quality, consistency, and heartfelt service are as deeply ingrained as the flavors in their signature dishes.

Family at Its Core

My recent visit allowed me the privilege of sitting down with Bill Giannakis, who, alongside his parents Nick and Mary, has nurtured this establishment through thick and thin. The story of Prime Table is as much about a family’s dedication to their community as it is about food. Bill, a fixture in the restaurant since his teenage years, embodies the spirit of commitment that has seen Prime Table through challenges, including the daunting closures brought on by COVID-19. Today, even Bill’s 13-year-old son chips in, adding another generation to this family legacy.

A Menu That Celebrates Tradition

The culinary offerings at Prime Table embody classic, family-style dining. During my visit, I indulged in the Monte Cristo Sandwich, a delightful twist on the traditional, served between slices of homemade French toast rather than the typical battered and fried preparation. This lighter, yet utterly satisfying version, accompanied by maple syrup, exemplified Prime Table’s approach to food: familiar yet unique, comforting yet exciting. The restaurant’s ability to serve breakfast all day, alongside a menu that boasts everything from Niko’s Omelet and Crepes to a Reuben and Gyro Salad, ensures there’s something for everyone, at any time of day.

Overcoming Adversity with Grace

Prime Table’s journey through the COVID-19 pandemic highlights the resilience of the Giannakis family and their dedication to their staff and patrons. By implementing online ordering and carryout options, they managed to keep the essence of Prime Table alive even when its doors were closed. The community’s loyalty, mirrored by the staff’s dedication, speaks volumes of the bond Prime Table has forged with the people of Niles.

Engagement Beyond the Plate

Beyond serving food, Prime Table actively participates in enriching the Niles community, from sponsoring local events to engaging in Niles Restaurant Week and the Berrien County Youth Fair. This commitment to community engagement is a cornerstone of Prime Table’s identity, reflecting a business that cares deeply about its roots.

 

Looking Forward

As for the future, Prime Table is focused on maintaining the quality and atmosphere that have become its hallmarks. “Customers say that they come back time and again because our food is consistent,” says Bill. “That’s why consistency is very important to us.” By making their dishes in-house, and using foresight to plan for ingredient shortages, they can make good on the promise that your favorite meal will remain exactly as you expect. With no plans to compromise on the caliber of ingredients or the integrity of their dishes, the Giannakis family is set on preserving the restaurant’s legacy.

From the cheerful welcome by the staff to the attentive service and the exquisite Monte Cristo Sandwich, my experience at Prime Table was a reminder of the joy of family dining. Nestled at 1915 S. 11th St. in Niles, MI, this culinary haven is more than just a place to eat; it’s a place where every meal feels like coming home, the food is made with care, and every customer is treated like family.
