Melissa Keusch: Taking Zipp Printing to New Heights

For Melissa Keusch, becoming the majority owner of Zipp Printing in 2023 realized a dream she didn’t even know she had. Since its founding in 1987, Zipp Printing has been a staple in Mishawaka, known for its exceptional quality and personalized service. However, Melissa’s leadership has allowed the business to enter a new era, blending a legacy of excellence with fresh energy and a feminine touch.

A Journey from Customer to Owner

Melissa’s connection to Zipp Printing began in 2017—not as an employee, but as a customer. At the time, she worked in the promotional products industry, serving as the go-between for clients and printers. “I realized I missed being part of the process from start to finish,” Melissa recalls. “There’s something so satisfying about seeing a project through every step.”

In 2018, she joined the Zipp Printing team, bringing over a decade of experience in the printing industry. Over time, her role expanded, and so did her ambitions. “I loved working here,” Melissa says. “It felt like home.” By 2023, Melissa had bought enough shares to become the company’s first female majority owner, marking a pivotal moment in her career.

Infusing a New Vision

Taking the reins of an established business is no small feat, but Melissa approached the challenge with determination and creativity. “I didn’t want to maintain the status quo,” she explains. “I wanted to build on Zipp Printing’s legacy while making it my own.”

One of her goals is to showcase the full range of Zipp Printing’s capabilities. “When people hear the word printing, they think paper,” Melissa says “But we do so much more than paper printing. We do apparel, promotional products, and even custom design work. I want to make sure the community knows what we can offer.”

Melissa is also considering a rebrand in 2025 to reflect the company’s broader scope. “It’s in the works,” she says. “The name Zipp Printing is well-known, but we want to capture everything we do, not just one aspect.”

Leading with a Personal Touch

Melissa’s leadership style is collaborative and hands-on. “We’re a small team, and that’s part of what makes us special,” she says. “Everyone here works together to ensure our clients are happy.” Her approach emphasizes relationship-building, both with her staff and her customers. “I want clients to feel like they’re part of the family,” she adds.

This personal touch extends to the company’s services. Whether we’re printing wedding invitations from an Etsy file or helping a small business design branded materials, Zipp Printing goes above and beyond to meet the needs of each client. “We pride ourselves on being approachable and reliable,” Melissa says. “If it matters to you, it matters to us.”

Overcoming Challenges…

Owning a business comes with its share of challenges. Following the Covid-19 pandemic, Melissa faced a reduced team, which meant taking on a heavier workload herself. “It’s been a balancing act,” she admits. “But I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, even with fewer hands on deck.”

Her ability to adapt and prioritize has been key to managing her responsibilities. “Lists are my lifesaver,” she laughs. “Communication and keeping everyone, from clients to my team, in the loop makes a world of difference.

Building Toward the Future

Looking ahead, Melissa has ambitious plans for Zipp Printing. Her primary goal is to hit $1 million in sales, a target the company came close to achieving just after the pandemic. To get there, she’s exploring bringing on a sales representative and continuing to grow the company’s reach.

Another priority is hosting an open house, where the community can learn more about Zipp Printing’s capabilities. “I want people to see what we do, how we do it, and why we love it,” Melissa says. Pairing this event with a potential rebrand could mark an exciting new chapter for the business.

Inspiring Others

From customer to owner, Melissa is proof that perseverance and passion pay off. As someone who worked her way to the top, she hopes to inspire others to pursue their dreams. “Don’t give up,” she advises. “Take care of yourself, find your balance, and believe in what you’re doing.”

Melissa’s dedication to empowering others was recognized in November 2024, when she was invited to speak at the 7th Annual Women’s Entrepreneur Summit. She was deeply moved by the opportunity to share her story and by the enthusiasm of the women who came to hear her.  “It was such an honor,” she shares.  “To know that my journey could inspire others was incredibly rewarding.”

Under Melissa’s leadership, Zipp Printing is seeing great success due to her dedication, vision, and care. With innovative services and exceptional customer experiences, she proves that a fresh perspective can breathe new life into a longstanding local institution.
